Randall Dog Park, Yakima WA

Updated: May 6, 2023

One of the two dog parks in the Yakima area.

Highlights: one of the two dog parks in Yakima; lots of dogs at any time; very few trees and shade in the park; some benches and chairs to sit; no water source inside the park; not everyone picks up after their dog; large area for big dog section

About the park: Randall Dog Park was opened in December 2014 with the help of City of Yakima and numerous local volunteers. At the time, this was the only dog park in the city. It sits on the 1.6 acres area and is adjacent to the Randall park. A creek divides the park from the dog park, but there is a path along the road to get to the dog park. The park is open all the time.

The Randall Dog Park is a fully fenced-in park located within the larger Randall Park, a popular destination for outdoor activities in Yakima. The dog park itself is divided into two areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, ensuring that all pups have a safe space to play and socialize with other dogs.

The park is well-maintained and features several amenities for dogs and their owners, including water fountains for both humans and dogs, plenty of shaded areas, and waste bags and receptacles to help keep the park clean. There is also plenty of seating available for owners to relax and watch their dogs play.

Getting there: This dog park is in the corner of Washington Avenue and 48th street. The address to the park is : 1401 S 48th Ave, Yakima, WA. There is one entrance to the park and has a large parking space. Finding a parking spot will not be an issue.

Our experience: We take our dogs here a few times a week and our dogs love it here. There are a few positives and negatives to this dog park. What we love about this park is the dog traffic this places gets everyday. If it's a nice day, you should expect to see a ton of dogs of every shape and sizes (Yakima has a lot of huskies for some reason!) There is a "small dog" and "large dog" sections to the park but the small dog section is always empty! Our dog, Kiwi, is a Chihuahua mix but she does great at the large dog section- so feel free to bring them in where all the dog are playing, if they aren't intimidated by the larger pups!

We come here at least once a week and mostly see the same group of dogs and people! This is relatively small community so everyone seem to know everyone. The busiest time in the park is in the evening, even though there have been dogs here at any time of the day. However, during the winter months, there seems to be less traffic in the park. There have been times when the entire park was blanketed with snow for several days at a time. Our dogs, nevertheless, seemed to enjoy running in the snow! Be careful of the ice though.

The park is large enough for dogs to run around and play. If you want to take a stroll inside the dog park while your dog plays, you will be walking about quarter of a mile around the perimeter of the park. There are a few benches and picnic tables for you to sit on if you are not a big walker!

If you live in and around Yakima and own a dog, you should definitely check out this dog park. Your dog will get a lot of exercise and will get to learn social skills- all at once! Come check it out sometime! Hope to see some of you there!
