Updated: Jun 21, 2023

Beautiful landscape that takes you to the waterfall.

How long is the trail?

Approximately 0.6 miles roundtrip. However, you can connect to the paved trail for a longer hike.

How difficult is it?

About the trail:

Agate Falls Scenic Site is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers in Michigan. The site is named after the Agate Falls, a picturesque waterfall that cascades over a series of rocks and boulders. The trail is a relatively easy hike that winds its way through dense forests, rocky outcroppings, and along the shores of the Ontonagon River. This makes it a great trail for hikers of all skill levels, including families with children and pets. The total distance of the trail is just under a mile, making it a relatively short hike, but one that is packed with stunning scenery.

Things to consider:

Agate Falls Scenic Site is a dog-friendly trail, but pets must be kept on a leash at all times. The trail is relatively easy, but there are a few areas where the terrain is uneven and rocky, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes with good traction. Along the trail, there are plenty of places to stop and take in the stunning scenery, so be sure to bring a camera to capture the beauty of the waterfall and the surrounding area. If you plan to visit during the summer months, be sure to bring bug spray as mosquitoes and other biting insects can be plentiful. Finally, be respectful of the environment and other hikers by packing out all trash and leaving the trail as you found it.

How to get there:

Agate Falls Scenic Site is located in Trout Creek, Michigan. If you're driving from the nearby town of Bruce Crossing, take US Highway 45 north for approximately six miles, then turn left onto Agate Falls Road. The parking lot for the trailhead is located at the end of the road. The trail is open year-round, although it can be slippery and icy during the winter months, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution.
